ZONARE MEDICAL SYSTEMS AND EPIC BRAND COMMUNICATIONS WIN TOP HONORS FROM MEDICAL MARKETING ASSOCIATION

Mountain View and Aliso Viejo, Calif., July 5, 2005 – ZONARE Medical Systems, Inc., a developer of next-generation ultrasound technology, and EPIC Brand Communications, a leading branding and marketing agency, announced ZONARE has received the top marketing award from the Medical Marketing Association (MMA). In June, MMA awarded Mark Miller, ZONARE’s vice president of sales and marketing, the Medical Marketer of the Year, based on an inspired marketing campaign created by EPIC, which showcased ZONARE’s new Zone Sonography™ ultrasound technology.

“We knew our revolutionary Zone Sonography technology was one of the most significant advancements in ultrasound, but the challenge was to position the tremendous diagnostic value this technology offers to our customers, and capture the attention of the market regarding the clinical and workflow advantages of ZONARE’s z.one ultrasound system,” said Miller. “We also knew our ability to offer the world’s first Convertible Ultrasound™ system, provided some very unique communications opportunities.”

EPIC worked with ZONARE to provide a cutting-edge marketing campaign, which focused on how Zone Sonography technology revolutionized the way ultrasound images are acquired and processed, resulting in clinical and workflow benefits to the customer. EPIC’s work positioned ZONARE as an innovative maverick, providing the plan and creative execution, which was very different from conventional medical marketing programs.

“Our goal was to make sure the customer understood the unique benefits that Zone Sonography technology could provide, and the tremendous clinical flexibility and workflow advantages of the z.one system,” said Paul Shortley, an EPIC principal. “We took a very different approach to traditional medical imaging marketing and developed themes that conveyed how ZONARE was bringing completely new technology to the field of ultrasound.”

Messages focused on a fundamentally new advance in ultrasound, Zone Sonography technology, combined with the z.one platform’s radically new physical design, offering significant clinical and workflow solutions for a wide variety of customer challenges. Additionally, messaging highlighted the z.one platform’s software-based architecture, and how system performance will increase as improvements in processing power become available, which allows for fast, convenient upgrades in clinical capabilities.

A key component of the campaign focused on ZONARE Medical Systems’ ability to bring the first Convertible Ultrasound platform to the industry with superb image quality at a substantial price to value ratio. Basically, clinicians are able to instantly convert the z.one platform from a full-featured cart-based system into a premium compact, ultrasound system with all the performance of substantially larger and more expensive ultrasound units, yet, with greater portability and clinical flexibility than conventional compact systems. .

ZONARE and EPIC were also awarded the IN-AWE Direct Mail campaign award by the MMA, which recognizes excellence in creative communications. The MMA is comprised of more than 1,200 medical marketing professionals from the pharmaceutical, device, diagnostic and marketing industries.
