CENTINELA FIRST IN CALIFORNIA TO ACQUIRE NEW ULTRASOUND TECHNOLOGY FROM ZONARE
Leading LA Hospital Adds Zone Sonography to State-of-the-Art Radiology Department; Reaches 97,000 Medical Imaging Procedures per Year
Los Angeles – July 25, 2005 – Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center, a leading healthcare facility in Los Angeles, today announced it has acquired the new z.one ultrasound system from ZONARE Medical Systems. The installation makes Centinela campus the first healthcare facility in California to offer patients breakthrough Zone Sonography technology.
“We do a fair number of portable exams and for our practice, the z.one fits perfectly into that portable niche, said Donald Mayekawa, MD, Medical Director of Ultrasound at the Centinela campus. “The portability of the multi-functional z.one will help reduce the potential of work-related injuries. The z.one is a new and revolutionary way of looking at ultrasound.”
The radiology department at the Centinela campus provided more than 97,000 medical imaging procedures in 2004 alone. This included ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CAT scans, mammography, MRI and diagnostic x-ray. In addition to the new z.one ultrasound system, the department recently added several new radiology procedures including kyphoplasties, endovascular varicose vein treatment, vertebroplasties, and uterine embolizations.
Zone Sonography technology has allowed ZONARE Medical Systems to bring the first Convertible Ultrasound™ platform to the industry with premium compact image quality at a substantial price to value ratio. Basically, the clinician is able to convert the z.one platform from a full-featured cart system into a compact, portable system quickly with all the quality and performance of substantially larger and more expensive ultrasound units, yet, with significantly higher performance than conventional compact systems.
Combining a fundamentally new advance in ultrasound, Zone Sonography technology, coupled with the z.one platform’s radically new physical design, offers significant clinical and workflow solutions for a wide variety of customer needs in addition to providing a far easier architecture to upgrade when new clinical and computer technology advances become available.
“From a sonographer’s standpoint, the z.one makes sense for us because we have had so many injuries due to repetitive motion and trying to move the larger ultrasound equipment to do portable exams,” said Kathy Ozawa, Ultrasound Supervisor, at Centinela. “Many of our portable exams are in very small spaces like the ICU and NICU. The fact that the z.one is lighter and more portable, but still provided the image quality we are used to, made it the right decision for us.”
Marie Klein, Lead sonographer at Centinela, agrees, “The z.one is very easy to use and ergonomically designed. I especially like the light weight transducers and the ease of transporting the system, even in its full-cart configuration. These benefits, coupled with the ability to quickly take the premium compact system to the patient’s bedside, will make the z.one system a valuable asset in our hospital.”
